Prior to 1981 The Commercial was in a poor state. The building had been cosmetically repaired and the old character removed or sold. The building is now renovated and is used as a private residence and workshop / studio.

The Hickling General Store opened in 1911. It was a very popular general store and was operated for 63 years in the same location. Upon its closing there were a few other businesses in that same space - some subdividing the interior to create room for two businesses.

The Hickling General Store Building had been unoccupied for many years and had begun to deteriorate. These photos were taken prior to some building repairs such as the roof, rear facade and the front face in 2009.

The Genoe House, home to the Thomas Genoe family, was originally a brick farmhouse built before 1915 that has been sided over and undergone some renovations. The building, was purchased by the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

The Genoe House was used during many Split Rail Festivals after the farm was sold and the land divided for the Highland Drive subdivision and the Flesherton Arena. In 2010, prior to the house being torn down to build the new Flesherton Branch of the Grey Highlands Public Library, it was used by Grey Highlands Fire Services for training.
