admirers. As much as it
secured fame for the artist,
Watson's work preserved for
future generations a Canada
that is no longer.
To look at one of Homer
Watson's works is to journey
| to a past where huge trees
grow in expansive forests,
where man works with and
toils against nature to carve
out a civilized society. As
Watson's paintings caught
forever a simple glint of
moonlight, so his work
captured his enduring love of
all nature, preserving for us
| the beauty of woods and
fields we can travel with our
own eyes.
Though he traveled
extensively around the globe,
Homer Watson loved southern
Ontario, always returning to
his home in Doon, to the
Grand River Country which was
his backyard. Inspired by his
| surroundings, Homer painted
the Canadian Heritage River
valley with what he called
"faith, ignorance and
delight," until the day he
died.
Today we remember Homer
Watson, the man as his
friends and family knew him.
