water colours, paintings and
sculptures. We invite you to
view the exhibit using the
“Storyline” feature.
   In “The Penny Diary”, we
have created a 1902
travelogue of his voyages
from Europe to Southeast
Asia, the Mediterranean,
Scandinavia and Russia by

matching his daily
observations with watercolour
images from the sketchbooks
he took to sea. Likewise,
“Sailing to Santos”
visualizes a young man’s
impressions of his first trip
to sea at the end of the days
of sail. Other stories
display his use of concrete

for business, construction
and sculpture. Another
introduces the “Centreville
Socialists”, a pocket of
unconventional thought in a
Canada spooked by Communism.
We end with a look at The
Charles Macdonald House of
Centreville Society and its
work preserving the life

works of Charles and Mabel
Macdonald.
   We are pleased to have
this opportunity to showcase
“Nova Scotia’s Uncommon,
Common Man”.
