Digby County: A Journey Through Time

WharvesThe Racquette, a protected cove, is the site of some of Digby's earliest wharves. Sometime in the mid 1760's a trading post was established in this area. The area was the site of the Maritmie Fish Corporation, D&O Sproul's Wholesale Fish and many others of the fishing, shipping and shipbuilding industries. The Digby waterfront was also dotted with many buildings and wharves of these industries. It was also the place where many ferries docked, transporting passengers and goods to and from other cities and towns. The new government pier was completed in 1931 and served as landing spot for the St. John-Digby Ferry as well as housing the Digby fishing fleet. In modern times the Ferry terminal and wharf were relocated on the Shore Road.
