The Founding of Pointe-aux-Roches:In the early 1800's, a party of French pioneers set out in canoes from Sandwich to organize a new settlement. Landing at a point along Lake St. Clair, the party took note of the boulders that projected into the lake and named their new settlement "Point-aux-Roches." Point-aux-Roches joined with two other hamlets, Chevalier and St. Clair Siding, in 1881 to compromise the Village of Stoney Point. To this day, the community actively celebrates its French heritage every November with its Festival de la Maison.
