King Seaman - His Legacy Continues

A Day Back Then In the years 1890-1910 people only did a few chores before school, the women dishes and made their beds. They only did a few chores because it was a long walk to school and school started at 9:00. School got out at 3:30. In the morning they got up around 6:30 and got water from an outdoor well and filled the wood box with wood. Then they would help with the barn work and eat their breakfast. Mainly they ate porridge and drank milk. They then walked to school. They studied History, Math, Writing and Spelling ect. They had a couple of recesses about 15 minutes long and a noon hour. They took their dinner in a homemade box or a lard can. All grades in one room. At school the students had to sweep the floor, fill the wood box, clean the boards and carry water. Sometimes they went fishing and used homemade lines and nets. Grade VI students in "1976"
