Getting Here From There

TRANSCRIPT

I made up my mind to stay at Farwell and look for employment of some sort. It so happened that after I came back there was a post office about to be started or opened. It was suggested that I act in conjunction and carry mails to and from Eagle Pass to Farwell, and carry on a sort of express business, it being up to myself to make it pay the best way I could. So I started at it, and twice each week I would go to Eagle Pass Landing for mails and solicit orders for any papers or supplies that the different wayside houses, contractors, or men might want. This I found to be a profitable and agreeable way of putting in my time. It was pretty hard on me at first, but I soon got to like it.
