The Art of Wooden Boat Building - A Dying Skill - The Vokey Family

 

 

Boat building was and continues to be in the Vokey family bloodline. Henry learned the trade from watching family in Little Harbour building boats and his children learned from him through watching and working with their father over the years in the shipyard.

Henry was born in 1929 and married Caroline Vatcher of British Harbour. Together they had thirteen children:

A number of the family members have had their turn at building boats and/or working on them over the years with all of them maintaining interest in their father's work and pastime.
