Serving our Veterans, Serving our Community (1946-2011)

TRANSCRIPT

"But just to some up really quickly, really what the conclusion was that Sunnybrook should become nothing more than a chronic care hospital, and that the things, all the services that were needed to support that should be provided by the existing teaching hospital, affiliated with the university. And they had to because of the agreement with the DVA [Department of Veterans Affairs] and the Kilgour heirs, they had to ask for an opinion, a legal opinion on this and I must say I think to most of the people on the board the amazing thing was that the legal opinion was that they could not farm out any of these things, that they had to be provided at Sunnybrook. So really, if you look at that, I always felt that Sunnybrook was saved by the fact that, and really prospered, and became what we are today because of the fact we had the association with the veterans and we had to provide these services."
