The United Empire Loyalists of Remsheg; refugees from the American Revolution.

 

 

During the summer of 1783, over 400 residents of the New York City area, left their homes, their businesses, and their their businesses,and their way of life to move to Cumberland County, in Northern Nova Scotia.

Some were soldiers, part of a security force protecting New York city residents, known as Delancy'sBrigade. Others were ordinary people,farmers,shopkeepers,Blacksmiths all caught up in the terrible Revolution.These refugees were part of a group from Westchester New York, who were offered land and supplies if they wanted to live under British rule.
