The United Empire Loyalists of Remsheg; refugees from the American Revolution.

 

 

Beginning at a white Birch on the North Side the River...

Exact Wording from the Loyalist Grant:

"George the Third, by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith and so forth,

To all these present shall come Greetings,

Know ye that we, of our special Grace, certain knowledge and mere motion, have given and granted,and by these present for us, our Heirs and Successors, do give and grant unto.......each of them and unto each and every of their several prospective Heirs, several alottements of land containing in the wholetwenty thousand three hundred acrers, It comprehended with in the districtshere in after described that is situated, lying along on the harbour of Remsheg and Tatamagouche within the County of Cumberland and the Province of Nova Scotia..... and founded as follows , Beginning at a white Birch on the North Side the River that empties into Tatamagouche Harbour thence to run North...... "

It was the intension of Museum workers and volunteers to find and mark the beginning point of the 1783 survey
