A Wonderful Bird

A chicken is a very wonderful bird
My good freind said,
You can eat it before it is born
You also can eat it after it is dead.

My grand old friend
The late Chippewa Indian Chief "Yellowface",
When nearing the end
Of his life's well run race.

Remarked one day
That eggs and chickens, were both very nice,
And reminded him in the same way
Of moose, which he always ate twice.

P.S. I asked Yellowface re the last line of the
last verse. His explanation was that he ate the
moose meat and tanned the hide which he sold to buy groceries.
