TRANSCRIPT

INTERVIEWER:
Can you remember what it was like, living in Sutton during James O'Brien Bourchier's time, how many people would there have been?

A.B. ANDERSON:
Two or three hundred, I suppose, there was no… Dalton Road was impassable, and James O'Brien had a sailing boat about the length of this room, and he used to peddle flour around the lake.

INTERVIEWER:
He did this himself?

A.B. ANDERSON:
Well he had men to do it I suppose. Well then, when the railway got to Holland Landing, the Steamer used to go right around the lake every day, to all the different villages.

INTERVIEWER:
We know that, um…

A.B. ANDERSON:
And on Wednesday afternoon they closed the stores in Sutton and we all went to Barrie, and that is the only time of the year that I ever saw bananas, and at Christmas time we had an orange, and now you can't have breakfast without it! [laughter]
