TRANSCRIPT

We are gathered here tonight to do you honour. We are remembering the years we have known you, and your work at this school.
We have known you all your life, and your life has been an open book. We find no blots upon it, but fair and straight lines. That, itself, is a matter for thankfulness and congratulation.
Your forty-one years of teaching have been real education - not cramming for results. You have taught, not only subjects of the curriculum, but citizenship. You have taught your pupils to be self-reliant, resourceful. You have directed the self-activity of the pupils in right directions, that they may be always usefully employed avoiding dawdling and indolenece.
Out of crude material you have evolved orators. The names of Jimmie Gray, Billy Walker, Douglas Kyle, and Doris Hollingshead, are names that will live as monuments to your oratorical ability.
You have studied the child - his motives, and know whether there is any wrong to be eradicated, or the feet to be guided into right paths. You are not only a teacher, but a Psychologist, working for the future of your pupils, up-building character, developing the best in them that their future citizenship may be high and of noble proportions.
You are your pupil's friend, a friend of the Section, of the larger community; loved and respected by the hundreds you have taught during this unusually lengthy leadership.
We honour you today, and regret that we can no longer keep you, and hope for you continued years of usefulness.
We honour you, sir knight, as the Dean of Teachers, Master of School Masters. You may not recognize yourself in this description, as modesty is one of your many virtures, but we who see you through the microscope of Goodwill, see you as you are, and rejoice that it has been our good fortune to have known you as such.
