Some nice warm day, in June I guess, after lunch he would go out and play football with the boys. This would go on all afternoon until about 3 pm. then he would call us all in, all the while pretending he'd forgotten about the time.
His wife, Laura Rolling, would walk over from King, on a Friday afternoon to teach us music. I don't know if she got paid for it.
My Dad (Earl Campbell) who was his student in the early 1900's, went overseas to France in WWI. Mr. Rolling would write to him and send him money and food packages. Dates, raisins and sweets. From what I heard, my Dad was a difficult boy to teach, so he was in trouble a lot with the teacher! But Mr. Rolling never forgot him.'
