On September 12 1909, The New York Times published an article containing the full text of telegrams sent by Commander Peary from the Marconi Station located in Battle Harbour, Labrador. The article described the journey to the North Pole and is the text for much of the remaining Exhibit. The story begins with the departure of the Roosevelt from Etah, Greenland, and ends with the sending of the first telegrams from Indian Harbour, Labrador.

The following is a transcription of the preamble to the article, authored by Robert E. Peary, which appeared in The New York Times on September 12 1909.

HOW PEARY REACHED THE NORTH POLE

An Expedition Over the Ice That Went to Its Mark with the Precision of a Military Campaign and Reached the Goal Sought for Centuries.

The NEW YORK TIMES publishes herewith the full text of Commander Peary's story of his conquest of the North Pole. The tremendous difficulties of transmitting the thrilling narrative by wireless telegraphy from the coast of Labrador have made the receipt of the complete document impossible for any one edition of The Times. The various installments are, therefore, here assembled and the full story, as written by Commander Peary, is presented to the readers of The Times.
