William left the family farm and arrived in Carbonear in early December 1852. Parsons, the photographer in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. <br /> After finishing his formal schooling in June, 1912, at the age of 16, Walter Hawker went to work at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Carbonear and worked there for two years before transferring to St. John's. This photograph may have been taken when Walter was working in Carbonear and prior to his having enlisted in the Newfoundland Regiment.
