The Sta'stas are named after young salmon-eggs after they have begun to form. The other name, Sangal 7laanas refers to the noisy sea birds that sound like people at a potlatch. There were a number of branches, including Sta'stas, K'owas, and Qa'ngual 7laanaas, Hiellen Qe'awai, Hiellen Sta'stas, Naikun Sta'stas, Tcawa'gis Sta'stas and the Ya'das branch in Alaska.
