The Flesherton Schoolhouse - SS#5 Artemesia - was constructed in 1891 on a hilltop property donated by W.K. Flesher, overlooking the Boyne River. It was a two-storey brick structure that operated until the 1960's when it was closed.

The building was abandoned and in recent years had suffered terribly from vandalism.

Broken windows and crumbling bricks were common. The building had become a hang-out for teenagers and homeless.

In July 2008, the building was engulfed by fire and completely destroyed.

The smoke plume from the building could be seen as far away as Dundalk and Durham.
