This cane is carved from the lowly Staghorn Sumac tree. It's lightness, strength and beauty of the green colored grain of the wood , belies the fact that most people overlook it as it grows along the hillsides and roadsides of the Upper Ottawa Valley. The beauty of a thicket of Sumac having turned red at first frost is indescribable.
Pat Patterson , Renfrew Ont.
