"The Toddlers Parade was held on the softball diamond at 3:30. Leading the parade and carrying the banner "Toddlers Parade - O.O.R.P." were Donna Serafini and Cheryl Beaudry, following were the "Bikini's", who were judged on their modeling ability only. There were three and four year olds, such good little models, that the judges had a difficult time. However as there must be a winner, June Grant as "Miss Saskatchewan" came first. Janice Serafini as "Miss Baldwinton." Others were Darlene Serafini as "Miss Royal Purple", Brenda Grant as "Miss Canada" and Robin Brown as "Miss Cut Knife", and Donna Atton as "Miss Elk's Beach".

Following the Bikini's were the Maypole Toddlers - Glenda Rewerts, Jerry Brown, Karen Veikle, Aline Milne, Randy Rutley, Debbie Serafini and Judy Serafini followed by the "Sand Pail Trot" all children of the Royal Purple and Elk's.

Kiddies under twelve got in the grounds free and received tickets which entitled them to free treats. There was a merry-go-round. The booth which was run by the Elk's was well patronized. The proceeds as always go to park improvements.

Volunteers Rush to Atton's Lake

Volunteers from Cut Knife rushed out to Atton's Lake Saturday afternoon to help put out a fire in trees at Atton's Lake.
Fire broke loose from the garbage dump at the lake and spread into thick trees to the east side of the lake.
The fire did not spread quickly, however, as there was little wind.

Cut Knife Weather Report

Torrential rains during the week swelled the Cut Knife Creek so that water was over the cement bridge on the new grid road to Elk's Beach. The road is still passable though narrowed somewhat by the washouts on each side.

4H Members Hold Annual Barbecue at Elk's Beach

District 35 4H members and leaders held their annual barbeque at Elk's Beach, Atton's Lake on July 10. This is the first time they have held it at Atton's Lake.

Despite the showery weather, there was a large crowd in attendance to enjoy the delicious barbecued beef. Tables were set up in the kitchen area.

The barbecue pit was situated half a mile east of the Park. The pit was four by six feet deep. A two-ton truck load of wood fed the fire from 10 p.m. the previous night. In this fire rocks are heated by gradually feeding them into the fire. The meat is double foil wrapped and placed in sacking. It is then placed on a sheet of iron covering the stones. The sheet of iron over the meat is covered with earth.

Chef was Gordon Sibley of Iffley, Sask. The meat (cooked six hours) was of fork cutting tenderness.

A program by the Paynton 4H Club followed in the evening. Lynn Biggart, president of the Provincial 4H Council was emcee. Community singing was led by Norm Beaton and Alex Noble. Two young 4H Members Doug Young and Derek Beaton entertained with a comedy act.

Roland Brassard, District 35's new agricultural representative was introduced by Mr. Biggart. Mr. Brassard is replacing Larry Koturbash, who has been transferred to Kamsack. Mr. Brassard and family will be moving to Lloydminster from Maidstone where the new office is situated.

Winners of the draw on the ticket sale were: student Babs Barsaloux winning a sleeping bag; adult - Ed Gendall of Cloan won a cooler. Prizes were donated by Finley's, Cut Knife.
