In the early 1990's the school added a new program, English as a Second Language. The uniqueness of this program lies in learning Bible and Theology along with English. Initially, nine brave Japanese students found themselves immersed in an Anglophone culture. Feeling themselves surrounded by kindred spirits in the Lord helped overcome the language barriers. Subsequently, students have come from Korea, Japan and the Ukraine.

It's a great learning time for all. The ESL students get to experience Canada and the Canadians get a taste of many other cultures. The international flavor that is brought into this community is healthy and allows for a broader understanding of the societies in which we live. The foreign students appreciate the small community atmosphere and safe environment. In turn, the people of Eston have fun seeing the foreign students adjust to Canadian currency, language and customs.

Henry Motta Alumnus
Yah my name is Henry Motta and I am from Edmonton, Alberta. I have been there for about 4 years and the years before that I was studying here, in Eston. What I am doing in Edmonton is working part time in the church, North Edmonton Christian Fellowship and the other part time I am developing my business and it is a construction business.

Why did you come to Eston from Guatemala
When I was in Guatemala I remember meeting the teams going from FGBI and giving an amazing presentation of what the school was and I just desired to be here. So I was praying and God opened the doors, and with Denna, my wife. My wife's name is Denna and I have 2 kids but at that moment it was just my wife and we decided that it would be a good thing to come. My desire was to come and we came, and then we spent 3 years here in Eston.

Importance of Student Life for a foreign student
Some of the students my peers, were people that were a big influence in my life because when I was here I was trying to develop an awareness of what the culture was all about and they taught me -- with patience -- and they were the ones that gave me and understanding of what the culture is all about.

The turn of this century marked a change in the academic flavour of the school. Students are now given a foundational understanding of scripture and from there are taught to read and interpret it. In a world that has been identified as "post-modern", "post-foundational" and "post-Christian" this is an important shift. A degree program is offered to prepare the student for graduate level education and provide a solid basis in foundational studies to support effective living and ministry.
