Throughout his life, Charles-Alfred's family is of prime importance to him. However, his many interests and activities do not allow him to spend as much time as he would like with his children when they are growing up. His retirement allows him to be with his grandchildren as they grow up.

His wife's death seems to make Charles-Alfred more aware of his own eventual death. He generously offers different goods to members of his family. His daughter Élisabeth's family will benefit the most from this giveaway policy. Between 1913 and 1920, she will receive more than $20 000 in Dominion bonds. However, the bankruptcy of the Company in 1931 will create a great deal of tension between Charles-Alfred and Marcellin Pettigrew, Élisabeth's husband.
