Craigmont General Store

The Craigmont General Store was an important business in the community, as the next closest village was Combermere, which was five miles away. It was a place for the townspeople to not only buy their groceries and get their mail, but to gather and find out what was going on at the Corundum mine and other general gossip. The store was owned by different people during the time Craigmont was an active community. Merchandise would have to be brought in by horse and wagon (and sleigh in the winter) or by the Mayflower and other boats.

Sand Bay Camp

The Oram family have nine cabins, and sell a small variety of groceries for the visitors and campers. Wes Oram built the first cottage resort in 1932 and catered to tourists, both American and Canadian who wanted to fish and enjoy their summer vacation. In 1942, they built the lodge that had a restaurant in the main building where the groceries were sold. Other cabins were added in the 1930's and 40's up to a total of nine. The Orams also live in the same building. Outside they have a gas pump to service their guests. Wes Jr. and Irene Oram still live and operate the business as they have for many years.
