The Markdale Creamery, was much more than a creamery. By 1948 it included a cold-storage plant, a modern chicken picking and egg-candling department, lockers for meat storage, a poultry processing plant and also dealt in raw furs!

In 1973, the Creamery was purchased by David and Penny Chapman and Chapman's Ice Cream began production that same year,

The Village of Priceville was a convenient half-way stop along the stage coach route that followed the Durham Road (now Grey County Rd #4) route between Lake Huron and Barrie, Ontario (Lake Simcoe). As such the village boasted six inns; all of which were well supported by the stage coach traffic. "The Commercial" was one of these inns. Built between 1865 and 1868.
