In 1848 Charles Lanman left Washington D.C for an extensive fishing trip to Eastern Canada. He was a well known naturalist and wildlife artist. He described the "Gascapediak" as a charming river. He said that it promised to be, if not ruined by poachers, one of the best streams on the continent for fishing.7
