In early 1900 a new brick building was erected at the intersection of Main and Railway streets by Mr Tom Fields and the Post Office was transferred there. Mr Fields continued to be post master until 1922 when Mrs Harry Leach (former Ruth Wilson) became post mistress. The rural mail was all handled from this point before delivery.

The Post Ofice was situated in the addition on the left of the main house while the addition on rhe right housed a small appartment , Local residents recall that David Mains of 100 Huntly Street fame once lived in this appartment.

The earliest Bank in living memory to serve Chalk River was a branch of the Provincial Bank of Canada, operated by Mrs Alma Owens from her home in the first CPR house off Main Street in Jan.1922. In 1926 the Owens family moved to the west side of Main Street near the CPR houses where Mrs Owens continued to operate the Bank untill 1935.

The Provincial Bank was founded in 1862 as "La Banque Jaques Cartier" and absorbed by the National Bank of Canada November 1st 1979. From a directory of 1932 the Provincial Bank lists Chalk River as a location for one of it's branches, but in 1898 it was not listed.
