The sound of the whistle meant arrival or departure on the Kettle Valley Line as it connected communites along the way. There was still no direct highway route to Vancouver; travel by car was long and difficult and owning a car was still a luxury.

But travel to the world outside the Boundary on the Kettle Valley Line was straightforward and affordable. And such an exciting way to go!

Lives were changed as the train rolled through and a new era of opportunity began. A bride arrives from the prairies to her new husband's farm and a family comes home to the Boundary to live again. Young people go off to private school and university but can still come home to be with family at Christmas, and to help out in summer.
