Ellen Amelia Lewis was born on December 28, 1882 to Henry and Elizabeth (Scott) Lewis in the small village of Sheguiandah on Manitoulin Island.
Ella, as she was called, was followed two years later by a sister named Isabella Dobson Lewis born December 2, 1884. She was known as Belle.
Ella spent her whole life in Howland Township. Ironically, she lived just across the Mill Pond from Geraldine Batman, and they were life long friends.
In April 6, 1905, the Manitoulin Expositor announced that Ella Lewis had graduated from a Bookkeeping course at Commercial Correspondence School. She passed with honours.
She also learned how to make hats and for some years operated a Millinery Store in the village.

In recognition for this donation, Ella was given a space in the museum of not less that 10' x 20' to display a collection of artifacts in the memory of her sister Belle, who had died in 1961.
Ellen Lewis died October 9, 1975.
