On the 1 July 1933 the opening of the Saanich Pioneer Museum had a Gala Day celebration with many descendants of the first pioneers who farmed the area.5

The Saanich Pioneer Museum stands as a monument today to those who have lived here in the past, and to the many volunteers that have donated many hours to the care, cleaning, cataloguing and now digitization of the collection in the last 73 years.7

Many times local people use the term Log Cabin Museum when they mean the Saanich Pioneer Museum. The Log Cabin Museum describes the type of building it is, not the name of the building. The Saanich Pioneers Society operates the Saanich Pioneer Museum or Log Cabin Museum.9
