There is no more sacred place than where we bury our dead. St. George's stands sentinel over two such places.

The cemetery located on the north side of the church was used in the early 1900s. The graves in the south cemetery date back to about 1842 when the first Church of England Church was built there. It was a smaller building, located near teh south west corner of the current building.

St. George's had a unique tradition that when a member of the congregation died the bell would be tolled the number of years that the person had lived. The whole community would then know that someone had died, and probably have a good idea of who it was. The names and tally marks were on the walls of the old bell tower. The last person for whom the bell tolled was Mrs. Eliza Fry, December 2003.
David and Wilbert Jerrett still vividly remember hearing the tolling of the bell on the morning of 22 June 1937. They were in a little boat in the harbour on their way to the "ledge", Wilbert was 12 years old and David 10. When they reached home they learned that their mother, Ruth (nee Michelin) had died in childbirth. She was 34 years old.
