By 1944 the camp focus changed to individaul training of soldiers and became the A-34 Special Officers Training Center and for a time it was commanded by Brigadier Milton Gregg VC. Today the last existing building on DND land in Camp Sussex is named after this famous Kings County son, The Milton F Gregg VC Armouries.

Training during this period consisted of individual skills needed before being attached to a unit overseas. Included in the sylabus were such skills as fieldcraft, map reading, amphibious operations, mines and booby traps, and handling a variety of weapons including pistol, rifle, Bren machine gun, PIAT anti-tank launcher, grenades and the mortar. Classroom lectures for other topics such as discipline, administrative duties and enemy tactics were also taught.

The hospital on the camp was also expanded and was now being used as a treatment center for soldiers returning from the battle fields with either physical and/or psychological injuries. This hospital was later to become known as the Kings County Memorial Hospital and remained in use until the 1980's as the community hospital in Sussex.
