The turn of the century brought several years of drought to the prairies. The lake levels went down. The increased water needs at the Golf Course required innovative solutions.

...."Several changes have been made in the Club House this year, including air conditioning, and alarm system installation, and a safe, a fridge and P.A. System. Overhead cupboards were purchased, installed and painted. In the dining area there is new carpet, tables, a screen door, blinds and valances, and a Red Carpet coffee machine were installed. Certainly all these improvements add up to make the Club House more appealing and comfortable to guests and staff alike."

Plans Underway for Proposed Atton's Lake Water Project

The 6 inch pipeline will run from the Battle River to the 3,000,000 gallon reservoir which will be located on the NW quarter of Section 32.
With the coming of the New Year, the Atton's Lake Regional Park Board is laying the ground work to rejuvenate the aquifer of the lake and at the same time also pave the way to have the capability to water the fairways on the golf course.
The low levels of water in the area have prompted the Parks Board to seek an alternative water source to sustain the Lake activities. The water source to be used will be the Battle River where a 10-horse power electric submersible pump will be located. Water will then enter a 6 inch line running approximately two miles south to a 3,000,000 gallon reservoir located west of the Number Nine tee box on the golf course.
The Board has made inquiries to the PFRA, Sask. Water, Sask. Power, and Howard Kirby of Anderson Pump house in North Battleford in regard to the steps that need to be taken to make this project happen. The Board will be releasing more information as it becomes available. Watch the paper for further updates. Also, feel free to make any suggestions to your local Regional Parks

Two years ago, faced with dropping water levels in Atton's Lake, a solution was thought to be found to supply water for the golf course and, possibly, the aquifer at Atton's Lake. It was decided that a pump would be set up at the river and the water pumped to a holding pond west of Atton's Lake.

In the months of June, July and August of 2001, surveying and an environmental study was completed and a site was selected. In October and November, easement issues were dealt with from Sask. Environment and the site at the river was made ready. Cortex cloth was laid and timbers put in to hold the gravel in place. Anderson Pump House fused the high density pipe into 1000 foot lengths and in April of this year, they chain-witched the two miles of pipe to the pond. At the end of May, SaskPower ploughed in the power line from the lake to the river. Anderson Pump House installed the pump and on June 12, the pump was started and the water started to flow into the pond.
Since that time, up to the 17th of July, 5.4 million gallons of river water have been pumped. Of that amount, 3.2 million gallons are still in the pond and 400,000 gallons have evaporated.

On July 18, accompanied by reporter Alice Rutley, Park Board members Paul Pellerin, Gerald Desmarais and Roy MacDonald visited the river intake site and dug a deeper hole for the pump to sit in. The water is now coming in to the pond at a rate of 100 gallons per minute.
As a note of interest, a sand point pump in a private ate well on the west side of Atton's lake which had not been pumping water this spring is now pumping. It is hoped that this is an indicator that the aquifer near the pond is rising.

"...Of interest to many is that this is the 26th year that the Edgerton Eagles have been coming to this tournament. Fred Lescow said, "We wouldn't miss it, I've been treated well here, win, lose or draw". Fred played with the team years ago, then was their coach, and now is one of their loyal fans. His son, Wayne is the Eagles pitcher. Another son, Cody plays for a Grand Prairie team and another son, Jeff plays for Lloydminster, so they are a real ball family."

Children's Days continued to be sponsored by the Elks during these years. Soccer, softball, face painting, sandcastle construction, Toss ball and Tee Ball were all played. Entertainment such as jugglers and Pooler's Puppets and Fun were enjoyed.

In these years the "Baby Boomers" are coming into retirement age. Many have the ability to purchase the recreational items that help them to enjoy the lake. Personal water craft, pontoon boats, kayaks, sailboats, and all of the accessories are showing up at the lake.
