A Story about Atton's Lake

In the 20's and 30's Atton's Lake was not built up as it is today. When we went camping, it was in tents and we took our own supplies.

It was a wonderful place to go for family picnics and many were held there for adults and children alike. As children we often talked our parents into going to the lake on a Sunday to enjoy going in the water and playing in the sand. The Model T Ford had to be backed up the steep hill, since the gas tank was under the front seat and the gas couldn't get to the motor while going up. The family had to get out at the bottom of the hill and walk up, and get into the car when reaching the top.

There was a dance hall there called 'Harry's Haven' and Harry Clysdale was in the orchestra. It was a fun time for all. I was very shy about being asked to dance with a gentleman who was very stout, but we did have a good time at these dances.
