The Carbonear 589 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary on the weekend of August 6-8, 2004. Many of the first recruits were in attendance as were Hudson Davis, the first Commanding Officer, and Johnny Clarke, the first Supply Officer. The event began with registration and a reception at the Legion Club on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon there was a picnic and barbecue for all cadets and family members. This was followed by a dance at the Legion on Saturday night. Sunday morning there was a church service followed by a parade to the War Memorial where wreaths were laid in memory of all cadets who were deceased.

Mr. Maurice Murphy, Chairperson or the Provinvial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada, presented a Fiftieth Anniversary Certificate to 589 Squadron of Carbonear. Accepting it on behalf of the squadron are the founding Commanding Officer, Hudson Davis, and the present CO, Judy Hoyles.
