In this shot, it's the Nechako coach sitting on the tracks outside the Penny Station. Being that the Nechako was a luxury coach, the fact that it was sitting on the track outside of the station would tell the viewer that there must have been some v.i.p.s in the area at that time.

4

In this photo of the kitchen of the Penny Station, while the focus is straight ahead and on the furnishings, one can see to the right of the photo the beginning of a staircase. This is a good example of how the background can tell it's own story...in this case, that there is a second floor and that it was accessed through the kitchen.

8

While appearing insignificant, these various track control lights were important to the safety of many railway employees and passengers over the years.

9

While many photographs were taken of the railway, few focused primarily on track control lights. Many were inadvertently captured on film by photographers. Historians use both the main focus and the incidental background in their studies.
