Little Catalina Nov. 1/65

Mr. G. Bradley

Dear Sir:

I very often think about you and yours and wondering how you are coming along and although we are related, yet we seem a long way apart. Yes your wife and me are second cousins through the Snelgrove family so that with other things very often crop up in my memory.
I suppose our brush with the confederation movement in some cases, and what have come out of it. Of course we got our wish on the first round. But. But I am sure neither one of us have got our wish all through the past 16 or 17 years. I can assure you I haven't, even though it was a good thing at first. But I am a long way from being satisfied for quite a lot of bungling that have happened. Of course entering a new regime there is always snags to face but quite a lot have happened in this country has been pure senseless blunders and has been done by pure senseless personal who has been put in charge of things they knew nothing about. Until now what have we got to take its place. Around our coast,

oh yes we got Russians, and all the way to Portugal coming right in to our back doors with their elaborate fishing outfits which we can never compete with. As it were almost taking the bread out of our childrens mouths and our leading government?
Haven't had sense enough in their heads all these 16 years to put up one bit of protection until now They see all our young people as they come of age flocking out of the country to earn a living in some other land.
Yes all that has been influenced by Water Street and its Clique and moneys enough spent and wasted in and around St. John's to put our fisheries in good shape and we are still left seeking the handout from the Federal Government of Canada to keep our fishermen from starving. But only for that handout that our fishermen has to get to help them through the winter, coupled with my age, there would be some fun

through the next 6 or 8 months.
You know what I did to break up the other old system of government, You had your part in it also. Yes that Joey is and has made all the world believe he did. Yes he has taken all the credit of getting NFLD out of a jam. And he has gotten her in a far worse jam now than ever. Depending on the other provinces to help her keep alive.
Oh well, I am past 85 and I have 64 descendants. Over 30 of them is all ready out of this country and doing very well. Some that is in the country is teaching one flying a plane and most of the younger ones is already making plans to leave as soon as they come of age and I am left with thousands of dollars worth of fishing property still on hand.
So its time I took a rest. So, wishing you and yours the best of everything, I remain;

Yours Truly
George Dalton
