In 1999 Tom Marsh read a story written in 1992 by the late Audrey Kelly in the Bothwell Times. The story was about how a museum at the oil field would be an excellent tourist site in Bothwell. Tom agreed and went to Oil Springs to speak with Lonnie Barnes about turning the powerhouse built during the 1890s oil boom into a museum.

The powerhouse needed a lot of work before it could be opened to the public as a museum. Tom recruited Tim Marsh and Terry Marsh for some financial support and the site clean up was begun by Tom Barnes, John Kish, and Tom Marsh.

Flywheel

Safety rails were built by the trio, tanks were moved by Stuart Rawlings of Thamesville with a crane and Harold Marcus lent tractors and a whole host of supplies.

Jerker Rods

The Bothwell Fire Department cleaned out the lines under the road so that the jerker lines could work the well across the road. Wayne Henderson assisted with the difficult task of hydro. Pat Holmes provided help for whatever was needed at the time and Marion Matt began to work on administrative aspects and saw the Bothwell Zone and District Historical Society incorporated in April 2001.

New Storage Shed on Museum Site

The shed at the back of the powerhouse was built by Murray Sailor and the wood was provided by Terry Marsh Drilling. Tom Marsh cleared the bush to make trails. Stan Kemp helped to build the culvert and brought the woodchips for landscaping.

Building Raised Wildflower Beds

Connie Fraiser, Jude Marsh, and Pat Holmes helped to build the flowerbeds that brighten up the area.
