The founder and editor of the New Liskeard Speaker, was active in practically all matters concerning agriculture. Mr. Stephenson would provide excellent coverage of all the local fall fairs. He did not hesitate to lecture on what type of grain to grow or seeds to use as he, himself, was a farmer. He loved to experiment with different crops.

In the days before radio, the local newspapers performed an very important role in binding the community together. The coverage in the Speaker was comprehensive and varied. One series of articles were contributed by Dr. Fisher on his trip to Europe and Egypt. Thus, in 1910, people were well served by their newspapers.
