The Bank - important in the history of any growing town. People come to protect their money and to see it grow. As the community progresses it can finance new businesses and farming operations.
Now as soon as banks got started the bank robber also got started, did you now that Ashern has the distinction of being the last place in Canada where a bank was robbed by theives using horses? Yes, it does and quite a history!

The robbery happened Friday, December 28, 1934 at the Standard Bank in Ashern. The Robbers escaped to the Birch Lake area. A Posse headed by an RCMP officer followed. They found the Robbers in a cabin. One was shot. The other fellow claimed the man committed sucide. To this day no one is sure if one did not turn aganist the other?

"Stick em up and hand over your cash!" Bandits force Mac McGiffen and Cathy Foord to open the cash compartment in the safe. They are then tied up and forced to lay on the floor while the bandits make their getaway.
