The Imperial Oil Company Refinery on the north shore of the Burrard Inlet, called Ioco (an acronym for Imperial Oil Company), was built in 1914 and began operation in 1915. It provided employment for over 200 people in the Port Moody area. Jobs revolved mainly around unloading crude oil from tankers and completing the refining process. The Ioco Refinery remained operational until 1995 when the refinery closed. Today, the refinery is used for storage purposes only.
