Sports played an important role in the lives of Ioco residents. The townsite was fully equipped with several different kinds of sports facilities including tennis courts, baseball diamonds, horseshoe pitches and a lawn bowling green and club house. In the winter, residents also built ice rinks for hockey and skating.

Ioco was home to one of the province's best baseball teams in the 1920's. They were named the best team in British Columbia twice in the 1920's and it is known that many men kept their jobs at the refinery based on the fact that they were excellent ball players.
