Until improved roads to Vancouver were developed in the 1940s, the people of Port Moody often used passenger ferries as transportation. Some of the known ferries that operated in the Port Moody area were the, 'New Delta,' the, 'Skeena,' and the, 'Scenic.' The passenger ferries would transport people to and from Vancouver, and were known to stop in various places, such as at Old Orchard, Sunnyside, Ioco, Belcarra, Barnet, and Dollarton. On Sunday nights the, 'New Delta,' ran later in the evening, and it was a weekly event for people in Port Moody to walk down and meet it as it came in to dock at the wharf. There was also a "shift boat" which took workers across the inlet to the Imperial Oil Refinery at Ioco and picked up the workers who had just completed their shift.
