The practice period at the Petit Foyer

The practice period at the Petit Foyer, also called practice period in house-keeping, is an important element in the education of the third and fourth year students at the Instituts Familiaux. At Val-Marie and Keranna, small apartments are set aside in the schools where the young girls do their practice. Each week, one of the students of the fourth year is named in charge of the Foyer. During this period, she must see to the upkeep of the rooms as well as to the planning and preparation of the meals for the members of her family team. Once during the week, she must prepare a meal for invited guests, such as religious teachers, her parents or Catholic Church representatives. The fourth year student is also responsible for the continual care of a baby for the week. The baby, from a needy family in the region, spends the school year in the company of the future mothers in the Foyer.
