This story outlines the history of the village store beginning with the anniversary of 150 years of trading. It is believed it is the only store in the Ottawa Valley that has remained the same business for 150 years.

Chris Hicks worked as an employee of the store for 11 years from 1984 - 1995 before assuming ownership from 2005. The residential property next to the store is also owned by Chris and was the former home of the previous store owners and is currently rented. There is a one bedroom unit above the store that is also rented.

Beryl and Peter Tomlin owned the store from 1984 to 2005. Originally from England, Peter worked at the Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) at Chalk River for several years before settling in Combermere.

Ernie and Nancy Peplinskie owned the store from 1973 to 1984. Previously, Ernie was a police officer for the Metro Toronto police force for 12 years before returning to Combermere to take over the store.

From 1970 to 1973 Joseph and Erica Rosenhammer owned the store. Joe came from Austria and Erica came from Germany. They had previously lived in southern Ontarion where Joe was a skilled automotive painter.

From 1968 to 1970 Gaston and Peggy Duschenne owned the store. Gaston came from Quebec and Peggy was a sister to Jack Miller who lived on Mill Street. Gaston and Peggy both lived above the store.

Nels and Bernice Boehme purchased and operated the store from 1959 to 1968. During this period they modified the store with an addition to the right hand side. The business expanded with more merchandise and the sale of propane tanks.
