At the time of its completion the Parry Sound Centennial Time Capsule was the largest in Canada. It was a snapshot of the entire community as it existed in 1987. Those involved in the project would not be around to see the capsule opened. The Time Capsule gave them an opportunity to leave something behind and to share their story with their decendents and the citizens of Parry Sound in 2087. When the town of Parry Sound celebrates its Bicentennial the Time Capsule will be opened. Its contents will become the property of The West Parry Sound District Museum. While the monument remains to mark its place it is important to share the stories of those who created the Time Capsule with a new generation of citizens. While many of us will not be around to see the final results, we can learn re-connect with the project by viewing this exhibit and by asking those involved what it was like. Time Capsule Committee Chairman Ray Pavlove remains as passionate about this project as he was in 1987. His help and contributions were an indespensible part of bringing this Virtual Exhibit together. While the contents of the capsule remain buried, the story of it's creation is alive and well. |
