We wanted to know whether in 2008, people were at all familiar with the type of work done by Émile Lizotte or with the beluga's former name, "porpoise."

We asked children around 10 years old, and they answered the following:

"It's a person in a war"
"A type of seal"
"Someone who plays funny dirty tricks"
"A monkey"
"A small wheelbarrow from the olden days"

Thanks to Joseph Lizotte, who taught his trade to his son, Émile, who, in turn, was able to tell his own son, Georges-Henri, about it, we have explored some memorable moments in the history of the south shore. We will never forget about the fishermen and the many belugas.

Over time, our knowledge and traditions deserve to be protected, just like the fragile beluga. We should pass them on to the next generation the same way Joseph, Émile, and Georges-Henri did. Like those who work to protect marine mammals and the environment in general, we must strive to keep the planet clean for future generations who might experience what we and our ancestors will have described.
