Climbing to the Clouds: A People's History of BC Mountaineering

Creator(s): North Vancouver Museum and Archives

This story is of mountaineers, of how they were drawn to explore, map, enjoy, and fight to conserve peaks and wilderness areas in south western British Columbia and beyond. Wander through this intriguing history; see the climbers, hear their voices, and view the mountains as your companion to adventure.

Climbing to the Clouds: A People's History of BC Mountaineering presents a rare look, in web form, at mountaineering as experienced by climbers from south western British Columbia. Unique videos created by the mountaineers themselves reveal stories of challenge, achievement and fun. Visitors will feel the lure of the mountains and the magic that has inspired artists and motivated others to advocate for wilderness preservation. Soar over the mountains, tour the times, rummage through the climber's kit and hear the voices of those who have trekked through our mountains. These are remarkable stories of personal feats, historic events, and outdoor adventures.
