The Delgamuukw v. British Columbia land title action in northern British Columbia was one of the largest aboriginal legal rights cases in the Supreme Court of Canada's history. This exhibit explores Gitxsan governance through the processes and outcomes of this landmark event. The essence of the Delgamuukw action was defining the relationship between Gitxsan ayookw (laws), adaawk (oral histories) and daxgyet (chiefs' authority) and Western society's laws. The impact of this case is still being felt in B.C. and across Canada.
