Discovering Canadian Art will highlight 200 Canadian masterpieces, making them available online for the first time.
This rich body of emblematic works, by some of Canada's greatest artists, promises to be visually stimulating and historically important. A selection of 50 works will be enhanced with audio clips from archives CBC/Radio-Canada archives, musical excerpts and videos of interviews with artists and museum experts.
Intended for elementary and high school teachers and students, as well as the general public, this virtual exhibition will constitute a dynamic online resource on the history of Canadian art from the 17th century to the present.
Features will include a timeline and a masterpiece gallery - enabling visitors to place the great Canadian art movements in their historical contexts - equipped with a search engine allowing visitors to delve further into images and informative texts associated with the artists. The "Zoomify" function will allow users to enlarge each of the images and appreciate the details of the works. Social media features will enable users to create their own gallery of favourite works, and share with friends.
